Scottsdale covers a vast area, North from Camelback nearly to Carefree, East on Shea to 136th Street and west to Scottsdale Road. The best way to assess Scottsdale is to differentiate by different areas. The hear of Scottsdale is called Old Town or Downtown. Active, and filled with trendy stores, clubs and restaurants. The main shopping area is Fashion Square, which is home to Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, Dillard's, Macy's, Barney's and a host of fashionable other destinations. The growing trend in this area is for high rise condos and apartments, very popular at this time for the Millennials who are not yet ready to buy and also for those who wish to downsize and also locate where the action is. Hotels abound and perhaps the most recognized is The Phoenician and also the newly instated and very popular with the younger set, “W”. Many large and well known companies also choose to office in this area.
Moving Eastward, there is an area called Gainey Ranch, highly residential with many gated sub-divisions and expensive homes. The main shopping is at The Gainey Center, which contains many individuals stores and restaurants and is a favorite with the local residents. The Hyatt Hotel, with it’s spa and twenty-hole golf course, is a great attraction for overseas visitors.
Further North and East, is mainly residential with many very popular areas such as Scottsdale Ranch, which itself is anchored by Lake Serena having a permitter of roughly five miles and is surrounded by many exclusive and gated sub-divisions. AN enormous draw for this area is the world renowned Mayo Clinic and the very substantial Scottsdale North Hospital. As one moves further North, the areas of DC Ranch and McDowell Mountain Ranch provide an enormous amount of homes for goring families. The lifestyle provided by the areas is very pleasing to those seeking more of the feeling of being removed from town and yet able to enjoy the best of desert living and beautiful gold courses.
Two of the newer and very exciting areas are located on the East and West sides of Scottsdale Road. The the West is Kierland, anchored by the magnificent Westin Kierland Hotel, with it’s challenging, world-class golf course and great shopping area. On the East side of Scottsdale Road is Scottsdale Quarter. The Quarter is anchored by the extraordinary busy Apple Store and supported by a host of trendy and exciting stores.
